Southampton are plotting a move to sign Queens Park Rangers star Steven Caulker after failing to lure Arsenal ace Calum Chambers back on loan, according to reports from the Express.
The Saints are in need of more defensive reinforcements following the knee injury to Florin Gardos as well as the recent departure of loanee Toby Alderweireld to rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
Manager Ronald Koeman is hoping to lure the QPR centre-back on loan for the upcoming campaign with an option to make the move permanent for a fee around the £8million mark depending on his form.
West Bromwich Albion are also keeping an eye on Caulker who will be keen on returning to the Premier League following his team’s relegation into the Championship last term.
Koeman is also monitoring the situation Hull City defender James Chester, but will have to meet the club’s valuation of £10million if they want to sign him for the upcoming campaign.
