Southampton eye up £5million full-back

Southampton are readying a £5million for Tottenham full-back Kieran Trippier.

That’s according to the Daily Star, who believe the Saints are keen on the defender, even though he snubbed the chance to join them 12 months ago. Instead Trippier moved to White Hart Lane for £3.5million.

But the 25-year-old only managed to play in 6 Premier League games last season, as Spurs challenged Leicester City for the title, only to finish 3rd.

And Southampton believe they could tempt him into cutting his London stay short, and heading to St Mary’s, with manager Claude Puel keen on purchasing an attacking right-back this summer.

It’s been one of the Saints’ more quiet transfer windows in recent years, adding only Nathan Redmond and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. Mane, Wanyama and Pelle have all left already.

But with the offer of more Premier League football, Trippier could be tempted into a move south, despite playing in 10 UEFA Europa League games last season, as Pochettino rotated his squad for the European competition.
