Southampton have launched a £7million bid for Glasgow Celtic defender Virgil van Dijk, according to reports from the Express.
Van Dijk has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League in recent weeks, with Arsenal and Manchester United both interested in the defender.
However, it is the Saints that opened the bidding, with manager Ronald Koeman keen on completing the deal before their first league game against Newcastle United this coming weekend.
Celtic boss Ronny Deila is reluctant to let one of his star players depart this summer, but the gaffer knows that the highly-coveted 24-year-old is extremely keen on playing in the English top flight.
The centre-back was purchased from Eredivisie side FC Groningen for just £2million back in the summer of 2013, and his £7million sale would turn a nice profit especially with his contract expiring in just two years time.
The Netherlands Under-21 international played 58 games in all competitions last season, scoring 10 goals.
