Southampton have completed the signing of Cedric Soares from Sporting Lisbon, an addition that could pave way for Nathaniel Clyne’s move to Liverpool, according to reports from the BBC.
The 23-year-old joins Juanmi, who signed earlier from Malaga, to become the Saints’ second addition of the week.
Executive director of football, Les Reed, has confirmed the arrival of both players as he admits to continue reinforcing the squad ahead of the upcoming campaign.
“We have signed two exciting talents early in the window,” he said.
“We will continue in our pursuit of Premier League success and our European journey.”
Soares also revealed his delight at completing a move to St Mary’s Stadium and is looking forward to competing in the Premier League.
“I joined this club because I believe we can do better and better every year,” he said,
“Everyone knows that the Premier League is a very, very good league – and maybe the best one in the world – so for me it’s a pleasure to be here.”
Apart from the Reds, Manchester United may also be alerted by the club’s new arrival, given their interest in luring Clyne to Old Trafford.
The England international is currently manager Ronald Koeman’s first choice selection on the right of his defence, but is yet to reach an agreement over the terms of a new deal.
