Southampton star wants long term St Mary’s stay

Southampton striker Rickie Lambert has vowed to stay with the Saints this summer and beyond, as reported by Sky Sports.

The former Bristol Rovers man believes he can finish his career on the south coast despite being linked with a move away this summer, with West Ham and Everton both interested.

The future of manager Mauricio Pochettino has also been questioned with Tottenham and Barcelona apparently keeping tabs on the Argentinean who has impressed at St Mary’s.

Lambert wants both his and his manager’s futures to be decided sooner rather than later and so he can relax this summer.

“I have always said I would love to finish my career here but who knows what will happen,” Lambert said.

“Obviously, we’ve got to keep the best players, keep the manager and, hopefully, bring in three or four quality players.

“The quicker it [Pochettino’s future] gets sorted, the better.”

Lambert is still hoping to be part of Roy Hodgson’s England squad this summer, where he could attract even more interest from around Europe.
