Southampton striker focussed on final four games and not World Cup spot

Southampton forward Rickie Lambert has admitted that he is trying hard not to think about the summer and the World Cup in Brazil, as reported by ITV Sport.

The England international is vying for a spot in Roy Hodgson’s squad for the summer and it could be between him and Andy Carroll who takes the final seat on the plane.

Lambert has scored 12 goals already this season building on his 15 from last term, and has made an impact for England in his four caps over the last 12 months.

Hodgson has been watching the Saints carefully this season but Lambert wants to make the most of his final four games in the league.

“It’s four games to try and impress; it’s four games to try and score goals,” said Lambert.

“I think I was vying for the central position, I think Jay might have been vying for one of the wide ones. If you’re asking for my opinion, that’s what I think was happening.

“I think we’ve had either Ray or Roy watching our games for the last ten games I think, so we know we are getting watched and that’s brilliant for them to be watching Southampton.

“I try not to focus on it, if I’m being honest. I try to play my own game, I think that’s the best way to go about it.

“I think you can’t think too much about it, because I think it might affect your game.”
