Southampton have made a £10million offer to Queens Park Rangers in their efforts to sign Chelsea target Charlie Austin, according to reports from the Express.
The 25-year-old enjoyed a great campaign in the Premier League last term, netting a total of 18 goals, but was unable to help his side avoid relegation.
A number of sides have now entered the race for his services, with Newcastle, Chelsea, and West Ham, all considering moves.
Although he still has a year left on his deal with QPR, a chance to return to the English top flight is likely to persuade the striker to complete a transfer away from Loftus Road.
With the Saints already making a formal offer for Austin, other interested clubs are now tipped to be preparing their bids as well.
The Hammers are said to be favourites for his signature, while a move to the Blues is likely to limit his game time greatly.
