Southampton are preparing an £8million bid for Roma striker Pablo Osvaldo, according to the Daily Star.
The Saints have been chasing a striker all summer, but have so far been left frustrated.
Manager Mauricio Pochettino has been desperate to add more quality to his recently inherited side over the summer, but has only managed to bring in Victor Wanyama from Celtic and centre back Dejan Lovren from Lyon so far.
For a long time the club had been chasing Brazilian Leandro Damiao in the hope of making him their marquee signing, only for the striker to reject a move to the South coast, claiming the club lacked ambition.
Pochetinno has refused to be put off by those comments however, and has turned his attentions to Roma’s Argentine born Italian striker.
The club have already had an offer rejected by Roma, whilst the 26-year-old was also rumoured to be unhappy with the personal terms on offer.
Now the Saints are looking to return with a fresh bid, in the hope of luring the man who has scored 27 goals in 55 Serie A games to St Marys.
Premier League rivals Fulham and Bundesliga outfit Wolfsburg are also said to be keen, but Southampton are confident they could even have Osvaldo in their squad for the Premier League opener against West Brom this Saturday.
