Southampton have a fight on their hands to hold onto impressive attacker Shane Long and hope to ward off interest from Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool by extending the forward’s contract, according to The Sun.
The Republic of Ireland international had a strong end of the season specifically and will go to Euro 2016 this summer full of confidence as a result.
Long is reportedly a player that both the Reds and Spurs are interested in signing this summer, as both Mauricio Pochettino and Jurgen Klopp look to reinforce their contingents before the start of 2016-17.
The Irishman is valued highly at the St Mary’s Stadium however and manager Ronald Koeman is said to be very keen to keep him with the south coast club.
Southampton will offer Long a new and improved deal to get the former Reading attacker to commit his future to the Saints, with it remaining to be seen whether he will look to stay with his current employers or play his hand in the transfer market this summer.
