Barcelona legend Xavi has revealed that he would have chosen Manchester United over Liverpool if he had the opportunity to play in the Premier League, Guardian reports.
Xavi is now currently playing his trade at Qatari side Al-Sadd after leaving Barcelona during the summer, following a campaign in which the Catalans won the treble.
And it seems that at the age of 35, Al-Sadd is expected to be the last club he plays at before retiring, ending any possibility he will one day grace the English top flight.
However, the former Spain international admitted that he would have loved to play in the Premier League, stating that he prefers joining a team with a history of success.
“To be honest, the Premier League is a big attraction for any player. It’s brilliant – the stadiums, the pitches, the fans and how they live football over there – it’s all incredible over there,” he told Eurosport.
“There are many great sides like Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool. If I had to select one, it would have to be a club with a great history; maybe Manchester United or Liverpool.
“I know that there are clubs who have emerged quite recently, like Manchester City for example, but United is my favourite historically-speaking,” he added.
Xavi started his career with Barcelona since 1991, playing in their youth ranks before breaking into the first team in 1998, going on to make an incredible 767 appearances for the Blaugrana until his transfer to Qatar.
