Manchester United face tough competition from Real Madrid in their chase to sign Pars Saint-Germain star Marquinhos, according to reports from Marca.
The 21-year-old has been struggled to hold down a regular role under manager Laurent Blanc as he is being seen as the third choice selection behind Brazilian teammates David Luiz and Thiago Silva.
His plea for regular first-team football has caught the eye of United boss Louis van Gaal as he hopes to lure the centre-back into his squad.
However, it is believed that Madrid are looking to replace veteran defender Pepe with a move for Marquinhos as they look to rival the Red Devils to his signature.
The Brazil international also hinted that he may leave the Parc des Princes if he is unable to see himself given regular playing time for the Ligue 1 champions.
He has only managed to register nine league starts while featuring another six as a substitute out of possible 23 fixtures this term.
