Spurs and QPR reject close to completing Serie A switch

Benoit Assou-Ekotto is set to complete a move to Serie A outfit AS Roma following his Deadline Day release from Tottenham Hotspur, that is according to reports in the Gazzetta dello Sport.

Mauricio Pochettino didn’t use the left-back’s services once during the current campaign, a campaign that, up until recently, saw Spurs competing for a top four spot, the League Cup and the Europa League. That decision by the former Southampton manager was similar to that of Tim Sherwood, the man who Pochettino replaced in the dugout, with the now-Aston Villa manager sending the Cameroonian on loan to the Championship with Queens Park Rangers.

Assou-Ekotto is reportedly a guest of Roma’s for their huge clash later today against Serie A table-toppers Juventus – a win would see Rudi Garcia’s side close the gap on the Old Lady to six points.

Assou-Ekotto, who was excluded from all first-team activities by current Spurs gaffer Pochettino, last appearance for the Lilywhites came way back on May 19th 2013.
