Barcelona are reportedly lining up a £30m summer swoop for Tottenham’s Welsh sensation Gareth Bale, according to the Daily Mail.
With the Catalan club’s current left-back Eric Abidal recovering from a liver transplant, Bale is seen as the ideal long-term replacement and would complement the style of their other marauding full-back Dani Alves.
The 22-year-old has previously admitted that a move to either of the Spanish giants in La Liga would be impossible to ignore.
“If you are talking about Barcelona or Real Madrid, two of the biggest clubs in the world, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime dream,’ he said. ‘If you said to any young player that you could play for Barcelona or Real would they turn it down? Probably not.”
Spurs may find it difficult to prevent an exodus at the club should they fail to qualify for the Champions League or if popular manager Harry Redknapp leaves to fulfil the vacant role with the England national team.
