According to Mirror Football, Chelsea will attempt to entice Spurs with a £40m offer for their star player Bale. The report goes on to suggest that the chance of the deal happening may be enhanced by Chelsea defeating Bale’s current club on Saturday.

A defeat for Tottenham would be a devastating blow for their flickering chances of qualifying for next year’s Champions League; however Bale did sign a four-year deal with Spurs last month worth £60,000 per week and his family are believed to feel that his development is better off in N17.

However, sources close to the player suggest that he would be keen to play in the Champions League again next season, after lighting it up this season. According to the report Chelsea are looking to bring in a flying winger to replicate past Chelsea wingers such as; Arjen Robben, Damien Duff and Joe Cole.

Tottenham will be reluctant to sell at any price but keeping hold of Bale, Luka Modric and Rafael Van Der Vaart will be much harder if they cannot offer Champions League football. Defeat against Chelsea could see Tottenham being overtaken by Liverpool and the Europa Cup place that goes with it.
