Manchester United are reportedly closing in on the capture of Argentine goalkeeper Sergio Romero, who will have a medical at Old Trafford on Monday according to Metro.
The South American stopper is a free agent after leaving Sampdoria at the end of last season and is in the market for a new club ahead of 2015-16.
Although a number of Italian sides are reportedly interested in the custodian, Romero supposedly prefers a move to United as he wants to work alongside Louis van Gaal.
If the Argentina international does pen a deal with the Red Devils, it could well acerbate David De Gea’s exit, with a move to Real Madrid being touted all sumer.
United have also been linked with letting Victor Valdes leave the club, with the veteran Spaniard reportedly unhappy at playing in the reserves and Van Gaal taking exception to this.
Romero is his national side’s number one and played at this summer’s Copa America for the beaten finalists.
