Newcastle United have placed central defender Steven Taylor on the transfer list at St James’ Park after talks over a new contract hit the buffers.
The 24-year-old’s current deal runs out at the end of the season and the Premier League returnees are not willing to allow Taylor to walk away on a free transfer.
The centre-back, who is currently out of action due to a shoulder injury, has made more than 170 appearances for United to date.
Meanwhile, Magpies boss Chris Hughton has warned Andy Carroll not to expect every game to go as well as Sunday’s 6-0 win over Aston Villa, in which the striker scored a superb hat-trick.
Hughton said:“What he has realised and does realise is that days like the day he had on Sunday, he will have equally as many bad days.
“It comes with the territory as a centre-forward. There will be good spells and bad spells and it’s working through those spells.
“Particularly when he is in the form he is in, we have got to capitalise on it the best way we can.
“But he will have bad days as well and that is something he is fully aware of.”
