Stoke City have sensationally smashed their club record transfer fee by landing FC Porto dynamo Giannelli Imbula, confirm the club’s official website.
The Potters have shelled out £18.6m in order to bring the 23-year old defensive midfielder to the club in a club record deal.
He made his name with Marseille before making a ¢20m switch to Portugal last season, though it has not quite worked out as expected.
Having sold Steven N’Zonzi over the summer, Potters chief Mark Hughes has addressed issues in the middle of the park dogging him for six months.
The former Guingamp ace becomes the latest exciting name to arrive at the Britannia, along with the likes of Xherdan Shaqiri, Ibrahim Affellay and Bojan.
He has signed a five-and-a-half-year deal, much to the delight of those behind the scenes at the club.
‘Giannelli is a player we have been trailing for some time and we are delighted to have concluded a deal to sign him’, announced Chief Executive Tony Scholes.
On loan Chelsea midfielder Marco van Ginkel has left the club, moving his loan deal to Dutch giants PSV.
