Manchester United star Memphis Depay has revealed that he is ready to prove his doubters wrong as he prepares to live up to expectations, Mirror reports.
The 21-year-old completed the move to Old Trafford during the summer from PSV Eindhoven for a fee around the £25million region.
However, he has been struggling to adapt to the Premier League and was recently benched by manager Louis van Gaal after a number of poor performances.
The winger has now admitted that he is ready to step up to the challenge and forget about his transfer fee as well as the number of the back of his shirt.
“It’s frustrating. I know I can do a lot better,” he said.
“I just had to settle in and get used to the football in the Premier League, to my new life in England. Of course, you want everything to go smoothly, but sometimes that isn’t always realistic. But failure just isn’t an option.
“Work hard. Every day, I try to become a better player. Doing that, you don’t think about your transfer fee or wearing a legendary number.”
United have been struggling so far this season as they have yet to register a single win from their previous six consecutive matches in all competitions.
Van Gaal’s job at the club is also said to be in huge jeopardy given their recent form as they now find themselves fifth on the Premier League table with 17 matches already being played.
