Sunderland 1-1 Southampton: Match Review

Stadium of Light

Sunderland and Southampton nudged themselves closer to Premier League survival as they shared the points at the Stadium of Light.

Paolo Di Canio post-match…”Let me be sure that we are going to keep the club up, and then I am going to change everything. I am going to change everything. I’m not going to push all the players out, but I am going to keep the right players and bring in the right players if it is possible.”

Mauricio Pochettino post-match…“When you make substitutions, you always want them to have an impact and today the two substitutions I made had an immediate impact. It was a centre from Ward-Prowse and Puncheon got the goal, so it was immediate.”

Man of the Match…Danny Rose: It says quite a lot about Sunderland’s season when their on-loan full back has been their standout player. And this was another impressive outing from Rose in his final game for the club before returning to Tottenham.

Flop of the Match…Jack Cork: Looked fatigued and exhausted after a superb season in the Saints engine room. Unfortunately conceded the midfield battle to Alfred N’Diaye and was eventually subbed off.
