Sunderland are considering a move to sign Kieran Richardson from Aston Villa after suffering two consecutive losses, according to reports from the Mirror.
The 30-year-old is being eyed for a return to his former club following a five year spell at the Stadium of Light earlier in his career.
Richardson looks to have lost his regular role at left back to summer signing Jordan Amavi who completed a £9million move from Ligue 1 outfits Nice.
He featured 26 times in all competitions last term, but has only featured 12 minutes this season, a factor that could push his potential exit.
Manager Tim Sherwood could now sanction his sale ahead of the upcoming transfer deadline at the end of this month.
Black Cats boss Dick Advocaat is keen to reinforce his backline as his side have already conceded seven goals from their opening two matches against Leicester City and most recently Norwich City.
