Sunderland target Manchester United attacker as Borini alternative

Sunderland are believed to be targeting Danny Welbeck from Manchester United after negotiations over a deal for Liverpool’s Fabio Borini looks to have come to a halt, Daily Mail reports.

Hull City recently tabled a £12million offer for the United striker, but the 23-year-old is said to have rejected the proposed move.

His future at Old Trafford is still in doubt with Louis van Gaal believed to be considering an exit for the England international after it is said he will not be playing a prominent role in the upcoming campaign.

However, Black Cats’ manager Gus Poyet has revealed that he is still considering the move for Borini, who played a huge role for his side in the previous campaign when he was brought in on loan.

When asked about the potential switch he replied:  “It’s still ongoing. I can assure the supporters it’s not over.”

A £14million bid is said to have been accepted by the Anfield side, but 23-year-old Italian forward is yet to decide whether he wants to stay or make the switch to the Stadium of Light.
