John Terry is in danger of being left isolated in England's World Cup squad following reports of a rift surrounding his explosive press conference on Sunday.

Terry, who coach Fabio Capello axed as captain in February, suggested that he and several established players were ready to challenge aspects of the Italian's reign they were not happy with at a team meeting.

The England camp has been awash with rumours of player unrest following back-to-back draws with the United States and Algeria which has left an ailing side needing to win their final Group C encounter against Slovenia on Wednesday to reach the last 16.

Capello's tradition of naming his starting line-up just two hours before kick-off and boredom at their training camp in Rustenberg were believed to be the main issues.

However, Terry's forthright opinions are reported to have upset other members of the squad after he went public with the fact that a group of leading players had met privately to discuss what went wrong in Friday's goalless draw with Algeria.

The Chelsea captain is reported to have been told by players and officials not to challenge Capello at Sunday's team meeting and he could now find himself isolated in the squad.

Speaking at an incendiary press conference, Terry had said:"We are in a meeting with the manager, whether he starts it or finishes it, the players can say how they feel and if it upsets him then I'm on the verge of just saying: 'you know what? so what? I'm here to win it for England'.

"If we can't be honest with each other there is no point being here.

"It has worked in the past at Chelsea. We have a responsibility to ourselves, the manager and everyone else to voice an opinion and hope he takes it on board."Subscribe to Football FanCast News Headlines by Email
