Chelsea star John Terry has vowed to try and regain the England captaincy after being demoted to the ranks by head coach Fabio Capello due to off-field problems.

The 29-year-old has been front-page news throughout the week due to an affair with the ex-girlfriend of former Blues team-mate Wayne Bridge and Capello decided to make a change as a result of the media storm.

A Friday meeting at Wembley lasted just a matter of minutes, with Capello opting to hand the armband to Manchester United's Rio Ferdinand.

Sources close to Terry later told The Sun that the defender commented:"I have fought all my life and I'm not going to stop now.

"If there's a one per cent chance of being World Cup captain, I will fight for it tooth and nail.

"I was devastated when he said I was losing the job as England captain. I didn't expect that when I walked in.

"But I think I could return as captain once the dust settles and the heat is taken out of the situation. There is every reason for me to fight to get the armband back."Subscribe to Football FanCast News Headlines by Email
