Sunderland have joined the race to sign Arsenal and Liverpool defensive target Virgil van Djik, a player who has been heavily linked with a switch to the Premier League, Daily Mail reports.
Apart from the mentioned teams, Tottenham Hotspur, Everton, and Manchester United are also said to be monitoring the 23-year-old who has been on good form for Celtic this season.
The Scottish club are doing all they can to retain his services, but due to the large number of interest from England, he is being tipped for an exit, whether in January or during the summer.
Gus Poyet is currently prepared to make a formal offer worth about £8million in hopes of luring him to the Stadium of Light in order to sure up his side’s defence.
The Black Cats are currently in 14th place and is in desperate need of some extra January reinforcements, but is likely to face tough competition from other interested parties.
