Liverpool are edging closer to the signing of former Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes with the deal said to be completed within the next two weeks, Metro reports.
The 32-year-old shot-stopper left the La Liga giants at the end of the previous season as Brendan Rodgers sees the three-time Champions League winner a possible candidate to provide off-form Simon Mignolet with some competition.
He was close to signing for Ligue 1 side Monaco during the summer window, but after suffering a knee injury, the French team halted any further transfer proceeding with fears of a slow recovery.
It is now said that Valdes will likely undergo a medical with the Reds during the upcoming international break and should he be deemed fit enough, his Anfield switch would be immediately announced.
Given the performance of his squad, there is also a chance Rodgers would opt to turn to the Spanish keeper’s experience between the sticks, meaning Mignolet’s place could be under jeopardy.
