Lech Poznan’s Bulgarian winger Aleksander Tonev is a definite Aston Villa target after Stiliyan Petrov recommended him to the club.
As we reported earlier in the week, the 23-year-old Bulgaria international who has made over 50 appearances for the Polish outfit having joined them from CSKA Sofia in 2011, is set to leave them this summer and Scottish champions Celtic were in the driving seat to sign him.
It was suggested that Villa boss Paul Lambert would look to hijack the deal and a report in the Birmingham Mail is now claiming that there is concrete interest from the Villains as the recently installed youth coach and former captain Petrov, has advised the club to move for him.
However suggestions that Tonev is set to fly to Birmingham this weekend for a medical and to seal a move to Villa are thought to be well wide of the mark so there is still a lot of work to be done to get him into the club this summer.
Meanwhile, the Mail is also claiming that Villa are not interested in signing Burnley striker Charlie Austin and Peterborough hitman Dwight Gayle this summer despite reports to the contrary since the end of the Premier League season.
