Fernandes told reporters last week that Rangers’ boss Mark Hughes had his full support, however the clubs fans voiced their discontent with the result following the full-time whistle.
Yesterday, Reading took the lead when Kaspars Gorkss netted after 16 minutes as the QPR defence failed to deal with a Nicky Shorey corner. At half-time, Loftus Road was filled with a chorus of boo’s from the home fans.
The second half saw QPR pick up their game, with Djibril Cisse scoring his first goal since May after 66 minutes. The west Londoners were denied a winning goal with some impressive saves from Royals Goalkeeper Alex McCarthy. With the last kick of the game, Cisse’s spectacular long-range effort struck the frame of the goal and bounced wide.
The final whistle signalled further booing from some sections of the crowd as Rangers fans made their disillusionment known.
After the game, QPR Chairman Tony Fernandez sent a tweet to try and appease the club’s faithful: “A game of 2 halves. Players getting used to premier league and different type of teams. Keep calm we will come good. Plenty of time. Many opps to win the game. I’m calm. Won’t please everyone. But as I keep saying stability is key.”
Both Reading and QPR are without a win in the Premier League this season and currently occupy relegation positions along with bottom place Southampton. QPR fans will be the most concerned however, being kept off the bottom spot on goal difference alone, despite playing one more league game than the Saints. They are now five points adrift of 17th place Aston Villa.
