Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has paid tribute to the performance of debutant Serge Aurier in Wednesday's 3-1 win over Borussia Dortmund.

Aurier joined Spurs from Paris Saint-Germain in the latter stages of the summer transfer window, and the right-back made his bow for the London club in the Champions League earlier this week.

The 24-year-old put in a solid performance during the European tie at Wembley, and Pochettino was quick to praise the contribution of the Ivory Coast international.

Pochettino told Tottenham's official website:

“He was fantastic. I’m very happy with his performance, he showed real quality."

Aurier, who is valued at £13.5m by transfermarkt.co.uk, was also linked with a move to Manchester United in the summer, but Spurs swooped to land the full-back on a five-year contract last month.

The deal taking Aurier to Tottenham had been held up by work permit issues, with the Ivorian receiving a suspended sentence for assaulting a police officer in 2016.

However, Pochettino's side managed to secure the services of the right-back, who will go head-to-head with Kieran Trippier for a spot in the first XI this season.
