Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has hinted that Harry Winks will be in his starting XI for Tuesday’s Champions League group match against APOEL.
Spurs, who beat Borussia Dortmund 3-1 in their first group fixture earlier this month, have travelled to Nicosia without a number of key first-team players.
Indeed, Victor Wanyama, Danny Rose, Erik Lamela, Mousa Dembele, Christian Eriksen, Jan Vertonghen and Dele Alli are all unavailable for the European tie through injury and suspension.
At his pre-match press conference ahead of the clash, Pochettino was asked whether Winks could be in line for just his second start of the 2017-18 campaign.
The Spurs manager refused to confirm that the 21-year-old would be included, but has hinted at a starting role for the player that is valued at £4m by transfermarkt.co.uk.
Pochettino told reporters, in quotes picked up by Tottenham’s official website:
“Maybe, yes he can start. It’s one possibility that Harry will start.”
Winks has made four Premier League appearances for Tottenham this season, although all four were off the bench, with the midfielder playing just 32 minutes of league football this term.
