Tottenham Hotspur are said to be in pole position to beat Atletico Madrid to the signing of America de Cali star Jeison Lucumi, according to reports from the Daily Mail.
The 20-year-old alerted a number of European sides following his impressive displays at the South American Youth Championships.
He represented the Colombia Under-20 squad in the tournament and helped his side finish as runners-up to champions Argentina.
Lucumi has also attracted interest from Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven, but his agent Alex Rios revealed that Spurs are already in talks to finalize the deal before transfer deadline day on September 1st.
However, it is believed that the winger will be allowed to remain with his current side until the end of the year before he completes his switch to White Hart Lane during the January window.
He may also find it hard to be granted a work permit as he is yet to represent Colombia on senior level, but could instead be loaned out to other European sides for more regular playing time.
