Tottenham Hotspur are leading the race to sign Atletico Madrid star Toby Alderweireld, who is also being targeted by Chelsea, according to reports from the Daily Star.
Alderweireld spent last season in the Premier League on loan at Southampton, and his impressive performances have not gone unnoticed.
Although the Saints are keen on signing him on a permanent basis, Spurs and champions Chelsea are hoping to bring him to London ahead of the upcoming campaign.
However, it seems that Alderweireld prefers a move to White Hart Lane, boosting the Lilywhites’ chances of signing the defender.
But Atletico will be reluctant to let the 26-year-old leave easily, especially with first-choice centre-back Miranda close to completing a switch to Inter Milan.
Aldeweireld, valued at £14million, played 28 games in all competitions last season, scoring one goal.
