The 29-year-old has now been confirmed by the Chinese outfits after he passed his medical to complete the £31.8million transfer from Europe.
He struggled to hold down a regular role under manager Diego Simeone ever since he joined from Portuguese giants Porto last summer and has now decided to move on.
The striker is expected to join his new teammates for winter training in Dubai on February 9th as he prepares himself for the upcoming campaign.
A statement from his new club has come out to praise the ability of the Colombia international and is confident that his attacking capabilities will be a great asset.
“We firmly believe that the addition of international football star Jackson Martinez will strengthen our attack, providing more exciting performances for everyone,” the statement read.
Guangzhou have also completed earlier deals for Brazilian pair Paulinho and Robinho from Tottenham and AC Milan respectively.
