Atletico Madrid striker Adrian Lopez could be on his way to Tottenham, reports Talk Sport.
The promising 24 year old has supposedly been a long term target of Arsenal, but Spurs look set to steal a march on their North London rivals in signing Lopez.
Atletico are eager to keep the Spanish international, who bagged them 19 La Liga goals last year, but financial problems may see their hand forced. A £15 million buy out clause could see him join Tottenham, as Arsenal were unwilling to spend more than £10 million for his services.
The deal could see Lopez triple his wages, and Spurs will be eager to get the deal done before the end of the month, as Lopez represents his country at the Olympics; where an impressive performance could see his signature become highly sought after.
This signing could work as a contingency plan if Spurs are unable to afford Emmanuel Adebayor’s extortionate wages as he attempts to further last season’s loan move into a permanent deal.
Since the arrival of new manager Andre Villas-Boas, the summer has been an active one for Tottenham, and the capturing of Adrian Lopez could mark the third piece of business in quick succession at White Hart Lane, following the arrivals of Gylfi Sigurdsson and Jan Vertonghen.
