Tottenham match-winner sees signs of progress

Christian Eriksen, who scored the only goal of the game between Tottenham Hotspur and Southampton, believes the victory shows Spurs are moving in the right direction.

Speaking after the game at White Hart Lane, Eriksen said: “We have not had that many good home games so far, so we are pleased with three points.

“We had some chances especially in the first half and some smaller chances in the second half. Other games we haven’t scored them but today we did.

“The players know each other but the system we have to connect it, and there is progress every time we play.”

The midfielder’s goal four minutes before half-time gave Mauricio Pochettino his first Spurs win in five games and also meant the Spurs manager grabbed victory against the club he left White Hart Lane for in the summer.

The win sees Spurs climb above their north London rivals Arsenal, who lost to Chelsea, into sixth place.
