A complex situation over the ownership of Jonathan Calleri may well become a lot simpler as Tottenham edge towards the signature of the star, according to Tutto Mercato.
Calleri, although he has left Boca Juniors, belongs to a small Uruguayan club who are largely seeing the player as an investment fund.
Technically, Calleri is currently on loan with Sao Paulo, who are competing at the top level of South American football and had his short-term contract extended temporarily so he could compete in the Copa Libertadores semi final for his club.
According to Sports Witness, his agents have always planned to move Calleri on to Europe during this summer transfer window and have worked it so that his contract would expire precisely so that a move could go through.
A popular player for many clubs, it is thought that Tottenham would face opposition from Fiorentina if they do try to sign the striker this summer and his current ownership situation will only make it more challenging for Mauricio Pochettino and Daniel Levy to seal a deal.
