Tottenham Hotspur have emerged as favourites to sign Manchester United target Rico Henry from Walsall after opening talks with the player, Express reports.
The 18-year-old is said to be the subject of an inquiry from Spurs as they look to acquire the services of the left-back dubbed as the new Ashley Cole.
Apart from the two mentioned sides, Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester City are also said to be interested in the signature of the defender.
However, a source from the club has claimed that Tottenham have made the first move after telling the English League One side to name their price for the player in order to push negotiations forward.
“Henry is perfect for the Spurs side that Mauricio Pochettino wants to build – and the lad can play left midfield as well so has real versatility,” they said.
“It’s going to be a question of the right price because everyone is watching the situation carefully.”
Henry is not likely to leave the Bescot Stadium for a cheap fee given that he only extended his stay back in October after agreeing to the terms of a new five-year deal.
Former Saddlers boss Dean Smith previously hinted that the player may not yet want to leave the club, but could still be sold if a big offer for his services is eventually tabled.
