Arsenal legend Paul Merson has predicted Tottenham Hotspur to finish above Manchester United and Chelsea into the top four this season, according to reports from the London Evening Standard.
Spurs are currently on an 11-game unbeaten run in the English top flight, with their only defeat so far this term coming in their season opener against Man United, in which they lost 1-0 at Old Trafford.
And although the Red Devils are currently three points above the Lilywhites on the Premier League table, Merson claims that Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino has a stronger side compared to Louis van Gaal’s.
Merson has been impressed by Spurs’ young squad, and believes that other teams should start fearing the North London club who he thinks will finish above United at the end of the season.
He told Sky Sports: “I’ve been very impressed with them and they’ve completely changed my opinion. What they did at the Emirates was phenomenal.
“They’ve got a great young squad and a very, very good manager in Mauricio Pochettino. The key for them is their best players need to stay fit.
“People have got to start respecting Tottenham and I definitely think they’ll finish above Manchester United.”
Meanwhile, Chelsea have not been able to recover from their early season woes, and are dangling only two points from the relegation zone in 16th place, yet Merson is adamant that the Blues will finish above Man United.
“Chelsea have a lot of points to make up but I can see them going on a run while United are capable of drawing too many games,” he added.
“There’s still a long time for Chelsea to make up that gap and, while it’s a hard one to call, I fancy Chelsea to just edge it.”
