Tottenham ready to cash in during January window

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has admitted that Heurelho Gomes is likely to leave the club in January, as he struggles to get first team football.

The South American stopper was Spurs’ first choice last season, but a number of high profile mistakes forced Redknapp to sign Brad Friedel as his replacement over the summer.

Gomes played in Tottenham’s Carling Cup tie with Stoke in midweek, but Redknapp feels a White Hart Lane exit could be on the cards.

“I would think he won’t be happy. He wants to play at the World Cup [in 2014] with Brazil, so it’s going to be a problem. We’ll wait until the next window and see where that takes us.” the boss told Mirror Football.

“He’s done nothing wrong. He’s a fantastic goalkeeper and a great pro. I just went with Carlo Cudicini in Greece [against PAOK in the Europa League] – and he was magnificent.

“I’m very lucky I have three top goalkeepers here and it’s unlucky for the two not in the team. They would get in other teams, for sure. He [Gomes] trains great every day,” Redknapp concluded.

Spurs travel to take on Wigan at the DW Stadium on Saturday, and will look to build on two consecutive victories in the league.
