Tottenham set to double his money

Tottenham are set to offer Luka Modric a new contract to double his wages, as they are keen to ward off potential suitors in the January transfer window.

The Croatia international was the subject of at least three bids from Chelsea in the summer, with a £40 million offer being turned down by the White Hart Lane outfit on deadline day.

Since then the diminutive playmaker has got on with business, and has played a key part in Spurs winning their last three games.

With the Eastern European reportedly earning £40,000 per week, Chelsea were willing to treble his salary, and Spurs have seen that the player deserves a higher wage.

The Telegraph has reported that Tottenham want to double his wages to £80,000 per week, which will hopefully persuade the midfielder to commit to the club on a long term basis.

Despite the fact that Modric still had five years left on his current deal, manager Harry Redknapp has called for the player to receive a pay rise, and it appears that chairman Daniel Levy will offer him a new deal.
