Tottenham Hotspur have been hit with a setback after Toby Alderweireld was struck with an illness ahead of their match against Liverpool, HLN reports.
The 27-year-old was set to feature for the Belgium national team in the friendly against Portugal on Tuesday, but has now been ruled out of the fixture.
Alderweireld was hit with a serious stomach condition called gastroenteritis, but could fly to meet his international teammates if his situation improves.
However, with a huge clash against the Reds coming up, the centre-back is likely to head back to London in order to continue his recovery.
Spurs are currently second on the Premier League table, five points away from Leicester City in first, with only seven matches left to be played.
Manager Mauricio Pochettino knows that he will need to win all their upcoming games if they want to stand a chance of overtaking the leaders to the league title.
Leicester also have a tough task ahead of the weekend as they will need to overcome Southampton if they want to strengthen their lead at the top of the table.
