Tottenham star wants to stay at the club

Rafael van der Vaart has stated that he wants to stay with Tottenham, despite rumours over his future and a possible move to Germany this summer.

The Netherlands international has been the subject of speculation, with Bundesliga team Schalke reportedly eager to sign the attacker during the transfer window.

However, the Dutch forward has stated that if given a choice he would like to stay at White Hart Lane.

“I don’t know. Actually, I want to stay at Tottenham. But, in football, you never know,” Mirror Football quote him as saying.

One of the main reasons for a potential move would be the fact that Van der Vaart’s wife Sylvie works in Germany, with the TV station she is employed by close to Schalke’s training ground.

Van der Vaart has admitted that this could have an impact on where he plays his football next season.

“I spent three years living in Hamburg and had a wonderful time at HSV. My wife, Sylvie, works there and we have many friends who live in that country,” he concluded.

Meanwhile, rumours continue over Harry Redknapp’s future, with an exit from the north London club still potentially on the cards.

Mirror Football indicate that Chelsea could be set to take advantage of the manager’s faltering contract talks with Spurs and bring him to Stamford Bridge.
