Barcelona have confirmed on their official website that defender Marc Bartra has joined Borussia Dortmund after the German outfit activated his €8 million release clause (£6.2 million).
Bartra has found regular first-team football hard to come by at Camp Nou over the the last 12 months and as such has opted to leave his boyhood club in search of a new challenge.
Dortmund have lost Mats Hummels to Bayern Munich and as such the Spaniard will be a like-for-like replacement at the heart of Thomas Tuchel’s rearguard.
Spurs will have to look elsewhere for defensive targets, as Mauricio Pochettino looks to add strength in depth to his squad ahead of featuring in the Champions League next season.
Bartra has been included in Spain’s squad for Euro 2016.
