The London giants are set to make bids for the Saints defender, who has been tipped for a very bright future in the game.
It will come as a disappointment for Arsenal who believed that they were in poll position to land the 17-year-old.
Raiding the Saints youth system may now be more of a challenge than it used to be however. As manager Mauricio Pochettino recently revealed that in-depth discussions with chairman Nicola Cortese had reassured him that the clubs top players will no longer be allowed to leave, unless of course it’ is in the clubs interest to do so.
Cortese has cashed in on his youth system a number of times in recent years having sold Theo Walcott, Gareth Bale and Alex Oxlaide-Chamberlain to Premier League outfits.
With Shaw contracted to Southampton for the next five-years there is certainly no pressure to sell, especially if they survive relegation in the coming months.
It could however be a different story if Pochettino is unable to stave off the threat of relegation. With Tottenham and Arsenal quickly to point out how well their Southampton youngsters have done since making the move to the Capital.
