Tottenham Hotspur defender Ben Davies has said that his team’s testing pre-season will stand them in good stead for the start of the 2017-18 Premier League season in August.
Spurs will travel to the United States on July 19, facing Paris-Saint Germain, Roma and Manchester City in the International Champions Cup before returning to Europe.
The London club will begin their Premier League season away to Newcastle United on August 12, meanwhile, and Davies has insisted that a tough pre-season will ensure that his team are ready to hit the ground running in the early stages of the new campaign.
Davies told Tottenham’s official website:
“We’ve got some good fixtures out there (in America) and it’s up to us to keep ourselves fit and get fully ready for them.
“We don’t want to come back in and have a slow start to the season – we want to come in raring to go and pick up as many points as we can early-doors. A good pre-season will help us to do that.”
Wales international Davies made 34 appearances for Spurs in all competitions last season, including 23 in the Premier League as he impressed in the absence of first-choice left-back Danny Rose.
Talk of Rose leaving Spurs has quietened in recent weeks, and it appears that Davies has another fight on his hands to nail-down a regular spot in Mauricio Pochettino’s team next season.
