Toure expects Bridge U-turn

Manchester City defender Kolo Toure believes team-mate Wayne Bridge will eventually change his mind and make himself available for England selection.

Bridge announced last month that his position in the England squad in the build up to the World Cup was "untenable" following a breakdown in his relationship with John Terry.

Chelsea defender Terry was stripped of the England captaincy by coach Fabio Capello but remains part of the squad following allegations of an extra-marital affair with Bridge's ex-girlfriend and mother of his child.

Capello insists the England door remains open for Bridge and Toure expects the City full-back to have a change of heart.

Bridge's stance has taken on greater importance following the ankle fracture which threatens first-choice left-back Ashley Cole's own participation in the World Cup.

"I think in a few months he will come back, definitely," said Toure.

"Everyone is proud to play for their country but it has been a difficult situation for him.

"Family life is so important and if you are happy in your family life then you can play better in your football.

"Wayne is honest. When you do something you need to do it with your heart and if your heart is not there you need to think about it.

"I think first he just needs some time to forget about this whole difficult period. And of course he is a good left-back, he has shown that with Manchester City and he will show that again."
