Manchester United have received a blow in the race to sign Atletico Madrid star Mario Mandzukic, with the striker preferring a move to Juventus instead, Express reports.
However, it seems that Mandzukic is eyeing a switch to Juventus after the Serie A side reportedly held talks with the Croatia international.
A recent bust-up between the former Wolfsburg star and Atletico manager Diego Simeone has caused Mandzukic to consider his options, but his agent Ivan Cvjetkovic has revealed that he could very well remain at Madrid due to the team’s Champions League qualification.
“Mario was unhappy recently because he had stopped scoring and that affected him but that was also down to Atletico Madrid,” Cvjetkovic said.
“In spite of this, this Atletico side still qualified for the Champions League and won the Supercopa de Espana, so there’s no reason to think he’s totally unsatisfied.”
Madzukic only joined Atletico from Bayern Munich last summer, but has become frustrated with his decreased playing time following the arrival of Fernando Torres from Chelsea.
The 29-year-old made 28 appearances in La Liga last season, scoring 12 goals.
