The People are reporting that there is set to be a summer tug-of-war over Inter Milan’s Wesley Sneijder between Manchester United and Manchester City. Sir Alex Ferguson wants the26 year old attacking midfield to replace Paul Scholes and has been on Sniejder trail for the last two years. Ferguson came close to signing the Dutch international last June after Jose Mouriniho left Inter Milan – but the player elected to stay in Italy after his marriage to Dutch actress and presenter Yalanthe Cabau Van Kasbergen. But sources close to the player now suggest he is ready for a fresh challenge and Manchester United is his preferred destination. There have also been recent reports to suggest that Inter Milan may be prepared to offload Senijder in order to fund a bid for Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas.
However, Manchester United is liked to face stiff competition from Manchester City – because Roberto Mancini is also keen on the player. Manchester United may also be put off by the price tag, Inter Milan want £35m for the player – but Snijder would also demand a five year contract worth a further 50m. The fact that Manchester United is also targeting a new goalkeeper and a new striker – if Berbatov leaves, suggests the door may be open to Manchester City.
