Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson

Vitesse Arnhem defender Alexander Buttner has stated that he is on the verge of completing a move to Manchester United.

The Red Devils have signed Nick Powell, Shinji Kagawa, Robin van Persie and Angelo Henrique this summer so far, but is believed that Sir Alex Ferguson is eager to sign a new left-back as competition for Patrice Evra.

Despite a move for Everton's Leighton Baines being speculated, it looks like Buttner could well be the required option for the Scottish coach.

"This is really a dream come true," the defender told regional tv station Omroep Gelderland, translated to English by Sky Sports.

"It was all arranged very quickly and of course I am very delighted. Happily everything is coming to an end."

The fee is believed to be in the region of €5 million (£3.9 million), with United beating the likes of Southampton, Fulham and QPR to the player's signature.
