Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has admitted that Angel Di Maria could well leave the club if he wants to.
The Argentina international moved to Old Trafford from Real Madrid last summer, but has struggled to fit in at the Premier League club after a bright start.
With the highly rated South American finding himself on the outskirts at United, transfer rumours over his future have started to emerge.
Van Gaal fielded a question over Di Maria’s future at yesterday’s press conference and admitted that the player’s future was up in the air to some degree.
“The player decides; we shall see what he decides,” The Guardian report the Dutchman as saying.
“He cannot say that he has had a marvellous season here. The decision is not only to him because now we have a contract, so we shall speak always with every player, evaluation, as I always do.
“Then we speak with each other about the future, and that is with every player.”
Di Maria has been a victim of Van Gaal’s swapping of formations, with the Argentine asked to play in a number of different positions this season.
In recent weeks the South American midfielder has been on the bench while others have been given a chance to play.
Di Maria could well feature against West Brom in the Premier League this weekend.
