Vidic praises deputy Evans

Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic has praised his stand-in Jonny Evans, and stated that his rehabilitation is going well.

The commanding centre back has missed the majority of this season, with a knee ligament injury ending his season.

However, the Serbian defender feels that Evans is an able deputy.

“Jonny has been playing really well in the last few games,” Vidic is quoted as saying in Mirror Football.

“It’s good for the team to have stability at the back and is the way to win the title.

“I remember when I scored my first goal for United. It’s a nice feeling and Jonny has come up from the youth team, so it’s his dream and it’s nice for him.

“I think they [United’s young defenders] are doing very well. If you look at their age and the expectation we have from them, it wasn’t that high, but they turned out to be important players for the team,” he stated.

Vidic also revealed that his rehabilitation is going well, and that he is targeting a return in pre-season.

“It’s going well. Obviously, the projection was I would be ready for the next season. I’m on schedule and hopefully will start training again in July.

“I’m working in the gym, mainly. Much of the stuff I’m doing in the gym I don’t look forward to, but it benefits me.

“I have to say I’m doing more work now, while I’m injured, than I do when I’m playing,” he joked.
